Our Story
renu charging was founded by two executives who bring a wealth of automotive and energy industry expertise to the company. It was clear there is a need for residential charging solutions that meet the needs of customers today. The current solutions on the market are either too cheap and under-powered, or too expensive with unnecessary features. EV charging needs to be simple, inexpensive, and fast.
The renu one charging station is designed for the next generation of EV drivers to deliver the essential features at the best value. This intention led to key attributes of the charging stations:
- 40 Amps - this is the right amount of power EV drivers because it minimizes the amount of power needed from the electric panel, allows for a NEMA plug-in option if desired, and makes sure a full charge can be delivered overnight.
- Simple Connectivity - Many changing stations on the market are over-designed and expensive with advanced controls that are unnecessary for today’s EVs. Functionality such as charge scheduling and smart charging can now be done from the car, and features, such as Wi-Fi connectivity add additional cost and points of failure.
- Design - By focusing on only the power and features needed, the design of the charging station is smaller and sleeker.

About Us
Boris von Bormann, the former CEO Mercedes Benz Energy, is an accomplished, thoughtful business leader and automotive management professional with a 15+ year entrepreneurial career in the automotive and clean tech industries, and vast experience on cross-cultural business aspects.
In his role at Mercedes Benz experience, Boris worked on providing infrastructural needs around charging for Mercedes-Benz in conjunction with the launch of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, the installation of renewables, and the development and manufacturing of stationary storage systems for the utility, commercial and residential sectors, as well as the concepts and processes around 2nd use of batteries after their first use in electric vehicles. Boris also co-founded renu energy TCI, a renewable energy company and electric vehicle solutions provider in the Caribbean, is the managing partner for renu ventures, a venture fund centering on the convergence of energy and transportation, and the founder of SAL, a sustainable clothing company focusing the ocean adventure lifestyle.
Boris's passion for sustainability and commitment to reducing carbon emissions led him to found renu charging together with Russell, where he leverages his automotive background to drive customer adoption in EV charging infrastructure.
Russell Vare connected with Boris at Mercedes-Benz Energy, where he led sales and marketing. Russell has worked in the electric vehicle space for 20 years including roles at Nissan where he worked on the launch of the Nissan LEAF and the first vehicle-to-grid and battery second-life storage pilots for the company. Russell has continued as an executive in the EV charging space, including at Nuvve where he developed more than a megawatt of bidirectional school bus pilots. Russell also serves Epic Charging in an advisory role. He continues to work with several hardware and software companies on fleet EV charging, battery second-life, vehicle-to-home and smart charging solutions.
